Training content
When a group moves together in coordinated movements, the feeling of security and strength created are greater than a personne moving alone.
The function of rhythm as an organizer at the person’s physical and behavioral level is reflected in group support and a collective sense of responsibility.
This training day promotes a unique session protocol in its approach to group therapy.
Dance and movement are used as a primary mode of interaction, communication and expression..
Body Cartography®
Body Cartography® is a body-emotion-mind paradigm developed by Haguit Ehrenfreund, PhD, Doctor in Psychopathology and Dance Movement therapist.
This working model is a concept for the study and understanding of the links between bodily expression and past emotional and psychological experiences.
The paradigm provides a methodology for examining the flow of movement related to emotional expression and mental processes.
The aim is for individuals to be aware of their relationship with their own body and how this connection has been built through past experiences.
This model is inspired by the practice of dance, the clinical practice of dance movement therapy, as well as French psychosomatic and psychoanalytic schools of thought.
.
Program of the day
Marian Chace (1898-1970) is a pioneer in dance therapy.
The ground breaking contribution to work with schizophrenic patients, she has played a leading role in the initiation and training of dance therapists.
Her method is still widely applied nowadays and her group work is known as the “Chace’s Circle”.
By integrating the concepts of group work according to Marian Chace with Body Cartography®, a practical and analytical (clinical) approach is implemented.
The session protocol can be adapted to different populations: children, teens and preteens, and adults; to different settings (teaching, therapy, activities, etc.) and to different disorders (anorexia, depression, burnout, etc.).
This training is an opportunity to position yourself in your own body, to develop a repertoire of movement and to learn how to integrate movement into clinical work.
Training objectives
- Present a session where the body has a place
- Reconnect to reality and to messages sent by your own body
- Experience the power of a movement in its clinical aspect
- Introduce group work according to Marian Chace: the importance of the circle, the dynamics, and communication through movement
- Acquire practical tools for clinical work and teaching
This day of discovery offers a first approach to group work in dance movement therapy.
It is not a substitute for a training course..
